Jordy Smith in Snowdonia

De WSL heeft inmiddels haar heil gevonden op het vasteland van Europa met de Pro France en Pro Portugal in het vooruitzicht. De huidige nummer 1 van de wereld, Jordy Smith, besluit om een korte stop in Snowdonia te maken om de handgemaakte golf te proberen voordat hij zijn titelrace voortzet.

Tussen de groene heuvels van Cornwy Valley ligt het surfparadijs Snowdonia. Met constante right en left-handers van 150 meter lang. Een ideale gelegenheid voor de teamrider van O’Neill om zijn power game  te testen en alvast op te warmen voor de CT stop in Frankrijk. Jordy surft de head-high mechanische golf met de kracht en stijl die wij van hem gewend zijn.

Zelf zegt Jordy het volgende over zijn ervaring in Snowdonia: “It was actually a good training session. The surf has been quite small in California so it was good to ride several waves in a short period of time. The wave is very different to waves in the ocean but it does offer a few fun sections to do some turns. It’s a pretty crazy place to be honest. I look around and it’s just surrounded by mountains and lots of greenery which is beautiful. I’m excited to be part of a time when artificial wave lagoons are launching across the world. The technology is continually improving and this is just the beginning.”

Na zijn winst bij Bells Beach, Australië en zijn knappe finale plaats bij Trestles maakt Jordy zich op voor een spannende eindstrijd met zijn grote concurrent dit jaar John John Florence. Met nog drie events te gaan belooft het een spannende eindstrijd te worden.
