Laatste 16 surfers bekend van de Quiksilver Pro France
Mooie cleane golven kwamen vandaag binnen bij de banken van La Graviere. Goed genoeg om de tweede en derde ronde van het evenement af te maken.
Kelly Slater wist een indrukwekkende overwinning te behalen op wild card winnaar Ramzi Boukhiam.
“I was nervous before the heat because there have been a few that have been slow and guys haven’t been getting waves,” vertelt Kelly Slater. “I started loosening up there at the end. With the tide changing, I was somewhat confident that the lefts would begin offering better scoring opportunities and that’s where I got my two best waves.”
Ook Kelly’s geduchte tegenstander Owen Wright wist zijn heat te winnen om zo weer een stap dichter bij de finale te komen. Kelly en Owen hebben deze tour al drie spannende finales opzitten. Zo won Kelly de Billabong Pro in Tahiti, Owen de Quiksilver Pro in New York en Kelly vervolgens de Hurley Pro bij Trestles.
“I’ve always known Owen (Wright) to be building up and building up,” verklaart Kelly Slater. “By the way peopletalk, I’m stoked to still be standing. These young guys are incredible. The stuff that Dane (Reynolds), Jordy (Smith), Julian (Wilson) and Owen do is amazing. When I was younger, I was always looking up to the older guys and now I’m looking to the younger guys to see what kind of lines they’re taking.”
Ook Jordy Smith is weer helemaal terug en fit na zijn rib blessure die hij opliep tijdens de Billabong Pro in Tahiti. Hij wist op het laatste moment zijn tegenstander Dance Reynolds te verslaan. Het was wellicht wel de spannendste heat van de dag waar de youngsters echt lieten zien hoe de toekomst van het surfen eruit komt te zien.
“A miracle would have to happen for me to get back in the race,” Vertelt Jordy Smith na zijn overwinning “I’m not looking at the World Title right now as I’ve missed two events. Kelly (Slater) has a good chance at winning it at the moment. Owen (Wright) is right there too. The rest of us are all just looking to get back in the game.”
Zodra het evenement weer verder gaat zal de eerste heat gaan tussen Taylor Knox, Michel Bourez en Jeremy Flores.
