Stephanie Gilmore wint haar vijfde ASP Women’s World Title

Tijdens de Roxy Pro Biarritz wist Stephanie haar tegenstander Tyler Wright in een spannende finale te verslaan. Met deze winst is het voor de andere deelnemers aan de ASP World Tour onmogelijk om nog kans te maken op de ASP World Title, en dus mag Stephanie zich voor de vijfde keer ASP World champion noemen.

“I woke up this morning and thought it wouldn’t happen today,” aldus Stephanie. “But as the day progressed, and things fell into place, I began to believe it could happen.Franceis such a special place and having so many people on the beach watching us surf today is really emotional. I think I’m going to cry.”

Vorig jaar eindigde  Stephanie nog als derde op de ASP World tour rankings.

“This year for me was all about improving my consistency and having fun with my surfing,” vertelt Stephanie Gilmore. “From when I started five years ago to where we are now, women’s surfing has improved so much. It’s an honor to be back up top as these girls push me everyday and are all incredible surfers.”

De enige surfers die meer world titles hebben gewonnen zijn Kelly Slater en Layne Beachley.
