SWATCH TTR STARS ATTRACT MORE ROOKIES THAN EVER TO THE 3STAR ONE BIG PARKZEIT
On June 19th 2010, competitors from all over the world including New Zealand, England, France, Belgium, Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland made their way to Germany for the 6th edition of the slopestyle contest ONE BIG PARKZEIT in the JEVER SKIHALLE Neuss. For the first time ever, the contest was also part of the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour and as 3Star event handed out valuable TTR world ranking points. Elke Cogghe from Belgium and Florian Heim from Austria stood atop the podium of the snowboard competition that day.
‘The quality among the snowboarders this year was as high as never before because of its TTR status. Riders came from everywhere to participate in the contest.’ says snowboard professional and PARKZEIT judge Flo Penzinger. ‘Especially in the finals, the level of riding was extremely high.’ commented judge Kathrin Gappmayr in surprise.
Almost 100 snowboarders from eight nations from the age of 14 to 54 years came to Neuss to present their tricks and styles in the freshly shaped park of the ski dome. Four judges took on the difficult task to determine the best riders that day who would later be awarded with a road trip to the ONE BIG PARK funparks around Salzburg, and goodies from the event’s sponsors, such Nitro, Vans, Atomic, Brunotti, Deeluxe, DC, and Rome.

NEW SWATCH TTR 3STAR EVENT IN AUSTRALIA THIS JULY: THE MOUNTAIN DEW HUT JAM
Fifteen teams of Australia’s best freestyle snowboarders will compete for a share of 19,000 USD in the second annual Mountain Dew Hut Jam on Mt Buller’s Bourke Street on Saturday 31 July 2010.
This local freestyle snowboard contest features a massive 2.5 metre high house-proportioned Mountain Dew hut as its centrepiece and established itself in 2009 as a totally unique event, not only due to the hut but as a team event, with each team selecting its best two jibbers to ride together. In 2010, the event has two new elements – the Gatorade Rookie Award and a 3Star Swatch TTR ranking.
‘The Dew Hut Jam is a new concept for an event in Australia, with solid prize money and the team element where riders have to work together and stomp their tricks to win,’, says Mountain Dew snow event curator Russell Holt.
The winning duo from 2009, Team Quiksilver’s Nathan Perry and Tim Laidlaw, took out the battle in style, landing big tricks including a 540 over the hut. It was 15 year old Laidlaw’s win that inspired the creation of the new 2010 Gatorade Rookie award.
‘I’m really stoked on the new Gatorade award this year. Some lucky young Aussie Shredder is going to get hooked up – big time. This support is invaluable to young Aussies who have to travel so far during summer to keep riding and pushing towards the next level,’ says Holt.
The Dew Hut Jam takes place under lights on Mt Buller’s Bourke Street from 6pm AEST on Saturday 31 July 2010.
For more information on both events head to ttrworldtour.com. And don’t miss out on the first 5Star event of the season this weekend, the Billabong Ante UP in Whistler, Canada where some of the world’s best will compete for the first big stack of ranking points to get a head start to the season.
